Membership
One becomes an active member of the church through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his Lordship in all of life. Baptism and public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the visible signs of entrance into active membership.
Involvement
A faithful member accepts Christ's call to be involved responsibly in the ministry of the church. Involvement includes:- Proclaiming the good news;
- Participating in the common life and worship of the church;
- Praying and studying Scripture and the faith of the Christian Church;
- Supporting the work of the church by giving money, time and talents;
- Demonstrating a new quality of life within and through the church;
- Responding to God's activity in the world through service to others;
- Living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural and social relationships of life;
- Working in the world for peace, justice, freedom and human fulfillment.
Becoming a Member
People may become active members in one of three ways:- Profession of Faith - those who have not been baptized and/or who have never been active members of a Christian church.
- Reaffirmation of Faith - those who have at one time been members of a Christian church and are currently inactive.
- Letter of Transfer - those who are currently active members of another Christian church.
Enquiry and Orientation
People who wish to join by Profession of Faith or Reaffirmation of Faith must attend the New Member Enquiry Class. This program focuses on the beliefs, history, worship and mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The orientation concerns the life and work of Mission del Sol. Those joining by Letter of Transfer are encouraged to attend the New Members Enquiry Class.There are four New Member Enquiry Classes each year. Each class will be offered on Sunday mornings during the Christian Education hour at 9:30 a.m. All classes will be conducted in Dr. Campbell's study, adjacent to Mission Hall. The schedule for 2008 is as follows:
- 9/28 - "Get Acquainted" Time
- 10/5 - "The Journey of Faith"
- 10/12 - "The Bible and Education"
- 10/19 - "Outreach/Mission"
- 10/26 - "Stewardship"
- 11/2 - "The Presbyterian Approach"
- 11/4 - New members meet with Elders. Dessert at 6:30 p.m.
- 11/9 - New members received in worship
- 11/9 - "Get Acquainted" Time
- 11/16 - "The Journey of Faith"
- 11/23 - "The Bible and Education"
- 11/30 - "Outreach/Mission"
- 12/7 - "Stewardship"
- 12/14 - "The Presbyterian Approach"
- 12/16 - New members meet with Elders. Dessert at 6:30 p.m.
- 12/21 - New members received in worship
