Local Projects

EVMC logo East Valley Men's Center
Everyone pitches in to make the difference in the quality of life in our community. One of those ways is to provide lunches for the men who are staying at the East Valley Men's Center. Once a month Mission del Sol provides sack lunches for the guys that are based at the center. As they clean up and get a job they need food to take with them each day to work or to interviews. One more of the little things that make a great difference in the lives of those who are making a come back, getting back on their feet. The time of fellowship of making the lunches is very rewarding and happens on the second Sunday during the sunday school hour, 9:15 - 10:15 am. Come join us in room 208 for this fun and helpful project!

cafe justo logo Café Justo
It is not about getting the best product at the cheapest price, though the coffees offered through this program are of the finest quality. It is about hard working folks like you and me getting paid a fair wage for their work. A wage to allow them to care for their family, to feed, educate and provide clothes and medical attention to their children. This is an opportunity to help equalize the imbalance between the "rich & poor", to assist brothers and sisters who are trying to find an honest living with dignity. Come on, the coffee is great! You drink it most every Sunday! Cafe Justo Coffee is available in the meet & greet room each Sunday morning. Pitch in and create a Win-Win situation.

Family Promise logo Family Promise
Mission del Sol is proud to be a part of the Family Promise Network. This is a group of congregations in the Phoenix area who open their doors and hearts to brothers and sisters who are in need of shelter. Each church hosts for a week at a time for overnight lodgings and the evening meal. This project is fueled by the members of each of the congregations who volunteer their time. Everyone can pitch in to help provide for the needs of our shelter challenged neighbors. We need folks to plan meals, shop and cook the meals. We need folks to move the beds, make the beds and set out towels. We need folks to spend the night as the contact person. This is a great service project. You will look forward to this opportunity every time it happens!

Habitat for Humanity logo Habitat for Humanity
Mission del Sol Presbyterian has been and is an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Past support includes dollars and many hours by MdS members helping on Habitat home builds in Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, Guadalupe and Glendale. Mission del Sol is a participating church in the East Valley Presbyterian Coalition. The coalition partners with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona to bring a group of churches together to pay for the material for a house and provide volunteers to build it. Habitat for Humanity oversees the project and provides the land and selects the family.

This year we will build a home for Dora Cavazos, a single, disabled mother. The apartment she lives in is in a neighborhood that is unsafe with surrounding crime. She looks forward to having a home where she can settle and watch her grandchildren play safely in the yard. Dora has worked for a cleaning company for 20 years. She learned about Habitat through a friend who is currently a Habitat homeowner. Being disabled, she never thought it would be possible for her to own a home and she is grateful to her sponsor for giving her a "gift of love."

Build dates are January 28 and March 24 at 1513 W. Grove Street in Phoenix. Dedication with be May 5th. Look for the volunteer sign-up sheets on the patio or speak to Kay Brickley for more information.

Meals on Wheels
If you have not had a chance to serve our homebound friends through the Meals on Wheels program, you are missing out on one of life's little miracles. Mission del Sol's Deacons head up taking meals to those who need a helping hand. Everyone in the congregation is invited to join this project as the need is great and the rewards are even greater! Speak to one of the Deacons for more information.

Tubleweed Youth Center logo Bottled Water for Tumbleweed Youth Center
There is a need for bottled water for the homeless youths at the Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development in downtown Tempe. Bring some bottled water to church with you and leave it in the large can by the front door. We all know how important it is to keep hydrated in this desert that we live in and our less fortunate brothers and sisters are often unable to find safe drinking water. Thanks so much for your contributions!
